MADISON, Wis. — Win. Win. That’s the summary of the policy that Governor Evers’ is calling for with a Special Session on BadgerCare expansion. The plan that Gov. Evers is calling on the legislature to pass shows, in no uncertain terms, what BadgerCare expansion means for our families: over 90,000 of our fellow Wisconsinites would be eligible for affordable health care through BadgerCare and new funding from the federal government would come back to Wisconsin. Gov. Ever’s proposal doesn’t let the new federal money just sit in Madison either, it directs funds to our communities to save and create well paying jobs and pay for needed investments to help us all.

The popular, bipartisan policy of expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act has been adopted successfully in 39 states. In Wisconsin, BadgerCare Expansion would make healthcare more affordable and accessible, unlock $1.6 billion in new federal funding for Wisconsin, and free up money for necessary investments across our state — like saving paper mill jobs in Park Falls, funding community health care in Racine, fueling riverfront redevelopment in Green Bay and expanding broadband infrastructure to rural communities.

A Better Wisconsin Together Deputy Director Mike Browne commented, “BadgerCare Expansion exemplifies what the Evers administration is all about: working towards popular, bipartisan policies that would make a real difference in Wisconsinites’ lives. It is time for Republicans to come together with Democrats to make this healthier, more prosperous future a reality.”
