On Valentine’s Day, A Better Wisconsin Together Highlights Wisconsin Republicans’ Love for Special Interests - and Themselves

This Valentine’s Day, A Better Wisconsin Together is calling attention to the love between Wisconsin Republicans and their special interest donors, and how some right-wing politicians are using campaign cash as a self-love bank instead of using time and resources to deliver action on issues that matter to Wisconsinites.

MADISON, Wis. — This Valentine’s Day, A Better Wisconsin Together is calling attention to the love between Wisconsin Republicans and their special interest donors, and how some right-wing politicians are using campaign cash as a self-love bank instead of using time and resources to deliver action on issues that matter to Wisconsinites.

“Money might not buy love, but for Wisconsin Republicans’ special interest donors, it sure does buy political influence,” said A Better Wisconsin Together Communications Director Lucy Ripp. “Recent campaign finance reports show that GOP mega-donors like Illinois billionaires Liz and Dick Uihlien have spent millions advancing their dangerous agenda by funding election deniers, anti-abortion candidates, and anti-LGBTQ efforts.”

Campaign finance reports reviewed by A Better Wisconsin Together also show that Republican politicians like Robin Vos and Brad Schimel have gifted plenty of valentines to themselves, using campaign cash to reimburse themselves for thousands of dollars in mileage, expensive meals, event tickets, cell phone bills, and more.

“Wisconsinites deserve to know how much special interest groups are spending to exert their extremist influence in our state, and we also deserve to know how politicians are spending their campaign cash,” said Ripp. “This Valentine’s Day and beyond, we hope Wisconsin Republicans will start showing more love to Wisconsinites than they do their special interest donors and expensive steak dinners.”
