MADISON, Wis. – According to recent news reports, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley is a confirmed speaker for the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy’s 2023 National Lawyers Convention next month.

Rebecca Bradley has long ties to the Federalist Society, an extreme group that seeks to exert dangerous right-wing influence on courts and judicial systems nation-wide, including right here in Wisconsin.

In addition to the Federalist Society’s longtime leader Leonard Leo playing a pivotal role in former MAGA President Donald Trump’s judicial nominations, new reporting has also shed light on Leo and the Federalist Society’s role in pushing right-wing influence onto Wisconsin’s court elections and judicial appointments.

“Rebecca Bradley has been a more than willing accomplice to the Federalist Society’s right-wing agenda throughout her career,” said Mike Browne, deputy director of A Better Wisconsin Together.

He continued, “There’s no one more extreme, ideological and partisan than Rebecca Bradley on the Wisconsin State Supreme Court today. Her allegiance to the Federalist Society’s agenda will no doubt be on full display as she joins with fellow MAGA faction speakers in November.”

According to her publicly available Statements of Economic Interests (SEI), Rebecca Bradley has received nearly $12,000 from the Federalist Society since joining the Wisconsin Supreme Court, is a past president of the Milwaukee Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society, and is a current advisor to the Milwaukee Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society.

Below are some, of many, MAGA extremists in Rebecca Bradley’s company as listed speakers at next month’s Federalist Society convention:

  • James C. Ho, a Trump-appointed U.S. Court of Appeals judge who has publicly expressed extreme anti-abortion views, and attempted to ban abortion medication;
  • Kristen K. Waggoner, General Counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). ADF, a group that frequently argues cases before Wisconsin courts, has been designated an anti-LGBTQ hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center;
  • Britt Grant, a U.S. Court of Appeals judge with a history of anti-voting rights work, including an attempt to declare the Voting Rights Act unconstitutional;
  • Damien M. Schiff, an extreme right-wing attorney who has compared abortion to slavery.
