OP-ED: Time to Find Out if Wisconsin Republicans Will Put People Over Partisan Politics

After several listening sessions across the state where Wisconsinites spoke to lawmakers on the Joint Finance Committee about what our communities need in the next state budget, it’s time to see if the majority Republican legislators will finally prioritize their constituents’ needs, or continue as they have for years and put partisan politics over the people of Wisconsin.
Popular asks from Wisconsinites at this year’s listening sessions – which are already part of Governor Evers’ proposed budget that finance committee members will soon vote on – include help with rising costs, funding for affordable health care and child care, fully funding Wisconsin’s public schools, clean drinking water, bolstering the local workforce, supporting Wisconsin’s farmers, and more.
Republicans have said Governor Evers’ budget proposal is “dead on arrival” and indicated they plan to throw it out and start from scratch.
Now that they’ve heard hours of public testimony from Wisconsinites saying they support the governor’s budget, will they listen?
Contact the Republican majority on the Joint Finance Committee today and demand they prioritize people, not partisan politics, this budget season.
Republicans on the committee include: Sen. Howard Marklein, Sen. Romaine Quinn, Rep. Shannon Zimmerman, Rep. Jessie Rodriguez, Sen. Patrick Testin, Rep. Mark Born, Sen. Eric Wimberger, Sen. Rob Stafsholt, Rep. Tony Kurtz, Sen. Julian Bradley, Rep. Alex Dallman, and Rep. Karen Hurd.
