OP-ED: 100 Days In, Here’s How Trump Has Harmed Wisconsin Communities – And What We Can Do About It

From reckless tariffs that are raising our cost of living and hurting local farmers, to ripping jobs away from thousands of Wisconsin workers and cutting off funding that ensures kids have food to eat and families have healthcare – in its first 100 days, the Trump regime wasted no time causing real harm to Wisconsin families and communities.

Within days of taking office, Trump’s federal funding cuts literally put Wisconsinites’ lives on the line by slashing support for food safety inspections, lifesaving medical research, food for hungry kids, and child care for working families.

Now, he’s pushing tariffs that will raise the cost of everything from clothes and groceries to housing and transportation – and a budget that will rip healthcare and retirement funds away from Wisconsin families – all so he can give tax cuts to his billionaire friends like Elon Musk.

With his blatant overreach and misuse of power in the arrest of a duly elected Milwaukee judge last week, Trump and his allies want us to fear our neighbors, stirring up chaos and division in hopes that we won’t see how his failed policies are raising costs and tanking our economy, starving our communities, and hurting working families.

But we aren’t falling for it, and we have the power to fight back.

Trump is relying on Wisconsin Republicans – in Congress and our state legislature – to carry out his agenda in Wisconsin. But at the end of the day, our elected officials are accountable to us, the people of Wisconsin – not Trump and his radical right wing agenda.

We must continue making our voices heard through forums like public hearings, town halls, protests, and letters to the editor, and holding our Wisconsin elected officials accountable, demanding they put Wisconsinites first.
