Governor Evers Protects Freedom to Vote in Wisconsin With Vetoes

Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature seem to have made it their mission to pick which voters get the freedom to participate in our elections, rather than allowing us to pick our leaders. Wisconsinites across the state have spoken up for the freedom to vote, and Governor Evers has heard us. Thank you, Governor Evers, for standing up for our freedom to vote.

MADISON, Wis. — This morning, Governor Evers took a stand to protect Wisconsinites’ freedom to vote by vetoing a series of bills passed by the Republican-controlled legislature that would have undermined free and fair elections.

A Better Wisconsin Together applauds Governor Evers’ defense of one of our most deeply-held Wisconsin values: that no matter what we look like or where we come from, all Wisconsinites should have the freedom to use their voice in our elections. But when Republicans lost the 2020 election, they decided that, instead of listening to Wisconsin voters and taking on the issues we care about, they would try to rig the rules to limit the freedom to vote in states across the country.

In response, Wisconsinites have come together to demand our freedom to vote and fight back against this attempt to stifle the voice of the people—particularly voters of color and disabled voters—and we have a champion in Gov. Evers.

A Better Wisconsin Together Executive Director Chris Walloch commented, “Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature seem to have made it their mission to pick which voters get the freedom to participate in our elections, rather than allowing us to pick our leaders. Wisconsinites across the state have spoken up for the freedom to vote, and Governor Evers has heard us. Thank you, Governor Evers, for standing up for our freedom to vote.”
