GOP Poised to Green-light Legislative Vote on Severely Restrictive Abortion Ban

Following a public hearing yesterday on state Republicans’ newest abortion ban proposal, which resulted in hours of testimony from Wisconsinites expressing their support for abortion rights and strong opposition to the bill, the GOP-controlled Assembly Committee on Health Aging and Long-Term Care will decide today if the bill can continue to advance toward becoming law.

MADISON, Wis. — Following a public hearing yesterday on state Republicans’ newest abortion ban proposal, which resulted in hours of testimony from Wisconsinites expressing their support for abortion rights and strong opposition to the bill, the GOP-controlled Assembly Committee on Health Aging and Long-Term Care will decide today if the bill can continue to advance toward becoming law.

The following are statements from A Better Wisconsin Together Communications Director Lucy Ripp:

“With this newest proposal to ban abortion, which even lacks any exceptions for rape or incest, Wisconsin Republicans are stooping to a new low in their crusade against reproductive freedom in Wisconsin, with their ultimate goal of keeping themselves in charge of constituents’ personal decisions on abortion.

“Republicans must do the right thing today by stopping the advancement of this barbaric bill and standing with the majority of Wisconsinites, who believe that politicians have no place in our exam rooms, and we should have access to safe and legal abortion care in Wisconsin.”

Ahead of the committee meeting this afternoon, call your legislator at 1-800-362-9472 and demand they do the right thing by opposing Assembly Bill 975.
