MADISON, Wis. — On Thursday, the People’s Maps Commission released draft maps for Wisconsin’s Assembly, Senate, and Congressional districts. After a lengthy and transparent process where thousands of Wisconsinites were able to make their voices heard in the community districting process, this is a big first step towards passing fair maps. After a period of additional public input, the maps will be presented to the Legislature.

A Better Wisconsin Together Executive Director Chris Walloch released the following statement:

“In our democracy, voters should pick their leaders, not the other way around. The People’s Maps Commission turned the process over to our citizens and to a nonpartisan commission, in a transparent and open process. This stands in stark contrast to the districts created in 2010, when Republicans and their lawyers went behind closed doors to draw districts according to maximum partisan advantage. The maps produced by the People’s Maps Commission aren’t Democratic Maps or Republican Maps, but Fair Maps.”
