MADISON, Wis. — In hours and hours of public comments at committee hearings and town halls people of all walks of life and from across the state made clear what their priorities are for the state budget. But Republicans in the state Assembly rejected amendments to provide property tax savings, deliver lower costs for hard working Wisconsinites, support public education, clean up water pollution, support veterans and farmers, improve public safety, and more.

The following are the statements of A Better Wisconsin Together deputy director Mike Browne on the Republican refusal to improve the state budget:

“It’s no secret what the people of Wisconsin want from their state government – help lowering costs, holding the line on property taxes, supporting public education, cleaning up water pollution, supporting veterans and farmers, and improving public safety.

“It’s also no secret that Jessie Rodriguez, Todd Novak, Dean Kaufert, Bob Donovan, Pat Snyder, Ben Franklin and their Republican colleagues aren’t listening and they’re not voting for what our kids, families and communities need to succeed.

“When given the chance today to make a difference and deliver a better budget for hard working Wisconsinites, they all voted no.

“These Republicans had their chances and made their choices. The hard working people of Wisconsin are next up to make theirs.”
