MADISON, Wis. — Republicans in the state Senate had the same one word answer when given the chance to pass a better state budget for hard working Wisconsinites today: “No.” Majority Republicans rejected 25 budget amendments to provide property tax savings, deliver lower costs for hard working Wisconsinites, support public education, clean up water pollution, support veterans and farmers, improve public safety, and more.

The following are the statements of A Better Wisconsin Together deputy director Mike Browne on the Republican refusal to improve the state budget:

“Again and again today Howard Marklein, Rob Hutton, Van Wanggaard, Romaine Quinn and their Senate Republican colleagues said ‘no’.

“They refused every chance they had to make this budget better for our kids, our families, and our communities by saying ‘no’ to providing property tax savings, delivering lower costs for hard working Wisconsinites, supporting public education, cleaning up water pollution, supporting veterans and farmers, improving public safety, and more.

“It’s the kids, senior citizens, and hard working people of Wisconsin who are going to pay the price.

“The good news is that the people of Wisconsin are the ones who get the final word on their extremism and lack of action.”
