A Better Wisconsin Together Applauds Governor Evers’ 2024 State of the State Address

MADISON, Wis. — In tonight’s State of the State address, Governor Tony Evers doubled down on his commitment to supporting working families, protecting Wisconsinites’ freedoms, standing up for public schools, and continuing to lead Wisconsin forward despite Republican attempts to divide our communities by putting their own partisan interests over what’s best for the people of Wisconsin.

“Governor Evers continues to listen to Wisconsinites, and deliver on what we say matters most to us,” said Chris Walloch, executive director of A Better Wisconsin Together. “He is building a strong workforce, economy, and local infrastructure, while also supporting our public schools, fighting for reproductive and LGBTQ+ freedoms, and investing in working families.”

Over the last year, Gov. Evers and legislative Democrats have been busy making moves on important issues like: child care access and affordability, paid leave expansion, reproductive rights, creating family supporting jobs, ensuring our public schools have the resources they need to support Wisconsin students, and holding corporate polluters accountable while making sure Wisconsinites have clean water.

Meanwhile, Republicans’ top priorities have included: putting themselves in charge of our personal healthcare decisions, silencing Wisconsinites and dodging accountability by attempting to keep their unconstitutional and gerrymandered legislative maps in place, handing out tax cuts to the wealthiest few while leaving working families behind, and using book bans and other divisive tactics to target public schools, libraries, and marginalized Wisconsinites.

“It’s obvious that while Governor Evers has a clear understanding of the challenges facing his constituents, state Republicans continue to put selfish partisanship and divisive politics ahead of what is best for Wisconsin,” said Walloch. “We applaud our governor’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of all Wisconsinites, and hope Republicans will drop the partisan antics and work together to build on Governor Evers’ forward vision for our state.”
