OP-ED: Republican Presidential Primary Debate Underscores Biden Administration’s Real Solutions to Issues Wisconsinites Care About

Republicans on stage couldn’t seem to agree on anything, except that they all are out of step with the needs and concerns of everyday Americans.

As Republican politicians took the stage November 8 for the third GOP Presidential primary debate of the year, one thing became increasingly clear: while the second-tier presidential hopefuls are busy arguing amongst themselves and MAGA extremist Donald Trump continues to dodge the debate stage, the Biden Administration is delivering real solutions to the issues constituents care about.

From abortion access and healthcare costs, to public safety and gun violence, those on stage couldn’t seem to agree on anything, except that they all are out of step with the needs and concerns of everyday Americans.

Meanwhile, the Biden Administration is listening to our concerns and delivering tangible solutions, through actions like: signing the Inflation Reduction Act, which is helping hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites save money on healthcare; signing the most comprehensive gun safety legislation in decades; launching the SAVE Student Loan Repayment Plan, to ease the financial burden for Wisconsin families as the student loan repayment pause ends; committing to defend and protect abortion access; and lowering costs, creating jobs, and strengthening supply chains through the CHIPS Act.

Notably, November 15 will mark the two year anniversary of President Biden signing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which has made historic investments in Wisconsin, including:

  • Connecting more than 300,000 Wisconsin households with high-speed internet access, an essential resource that many rural communities too often lack access to;
  • Over $2 billion to improve the more than 900 bridges and over 6,976 miles of highway in poor condition across the state;
  • $370 million to ensure Wisconsinites have clean drinking water, especially in local schools through lead pipe replacement efforts;
  • $599 million to expand sustainable public transportation in Wisconsin, an issue that disproportionately impacts BIPOC households;
  • And much more.

The Republican politicians who took the stage at the latest primary debate are too busy going tit-for-tat on extremism, while we deserve leaders who will keep building on the Biden Administration policy successes that prioritize our concerns.
