MADISON, Wis. — In the State of the Union speech tonight, President Joe Biden spoke of the progress made in delivering on an economy that works for all of us under his administration and the work ahead to “finish the job” and deliver on the promise of freedom and prosperity, no matter one’s zip code, race or gender.

The following are the statements of A Better Wisconsin Together Executive Director Chris Walloch:

“President Biden tonight spoke both of the progress we’ve made in the last two years and the work that still must be done to live up to the promise of our nation.

“With the leadership of President Biden and Democrats at the federal level we’re building our economy from the bottom up and the middle out, creating record numbers of new jobs, including well-paying union jobs in areas like clean energy, manufacturing and the trades.

“Working with the Biden administration, Gov. Evers and progressives are leading efforts here in Wisconsin, guiding our economy through the dark days of the pandemic by providing more support for our small businesses than any other state in the nation, rebuilding our roads and bridges and investing in expanding access to high speed internet.

“As President Biden said tonight, now it’s time to ‘finish the job’ making sure the hard work we Wisconsinites put in delivers results for ourselves and our communities. We’ve earned things like a secure retirement, access to affordable health care and prescription drugs, education and job training without a lifetime of debt and time off to spend with our families, whether it’s caring for a sick loved one or attending a school event for our kids.

“It also means protecting our freedoms, whether that’s making sure it’s Wisconsinites and not politicians making decisions about abortion care, protecting all our voices at the ballot box or ensuring everyone can thrive in our communities peacefully and safely, without fear of gun violence or police brutality.

“Whether it’s in Washington D.C. or Wisconsin, divided government doesn’t have to mean dysfunction. Republicans have the chance to work with President Biden and Democrats to deliver on what we demand, a nation that lives up to its ideals and rewards hard work with opportunity and prosperity.”
