MADISON, Wis. — In a 5-2 ruling released this morning, the Wisconsin Supreme Court has decided that Wisconsinites deserve clean water and corporate polluters who contaminate our waterways must be held accountable under the law.

“This is a win for all Wisconsinites, the health of our families and our environment, and the cherished natural resources that help make Wisconsin such a great place to live and work,” said A Better Wisconsin Together Communications Director Lucy Ripp.

Far-right MAGA justices Rebecca Bradley and Annette Ziegler were the only two on the court who did not join their colleagues’ majority decision. Notably, the court’s ruling this morning reversed a lower court decision tied to two other far-right MAGA judges, Maria Lazar and Shelley Grogan.

The decision also comes as Wisconsin Republicans have blocked at every turn efforts from Governor Tony Evers and legislative Democrats to adequately address PFAS contamination in Wisconsinites’ water.

“We are grateful for the hardworking Wisconsinites, dedicated advocates, and lawmakers who have been champions for clean water, and to the progressive majority on the state Supreme Court for taking Wisconsin another step closer to clean and safe water for all,” Ripp said.
