Wisconsin Republicans Too Focused on Misplaced Priorities to Actually Help Wisconsinites

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin Republicans passed a slew of  bills yesterday focused heavily on attacking LGBTQ+ youth, threatening medical professionals, and giving themselves more power to obstruct state agencies that enforce laws.

A Better Wisconsin Together Communications Director Lucy Ripp notes that today is yet another example of Wisconsin Republicans choosing to stoke division and hate instead of seizing an opportunity to meaningfully address the pressing issues facing Wisconsin communities.

“Here we are again with Republican lawmakers choosing to interfere in constituents’ private, personal decisions and attacking innocent kids while refusing to take action on the priority issues Wisconsinites desperately need them to address,” Ripp said.

Ripp noted that, especially as they plan to pack up and end the legislative session with nearly 10 months left in the year, the GOP majority in the legislature should be focused on issues like the rising cost of groceries and healthcare, protecting our immigrant neighbors, or fully funded schools with high quality resources.

“If legislative Republicans really cared about serving all of their constituents, they would end their decades-long crusade of starving our state’s public schools and finally meaningfully invest in things like affordable healthcare, child care, and more,” said Ripp. “Instead, they are using kids and marginalized communities as political pawns meant to distract and divide.”
