MADISON, Wis. — Several days after the murder of ICU nurse Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis, U.S Representative and right-wing gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany claims he has neither seen the widely reported video of the killing nor heard the widely reported comments of top Trump regime officials attempting to blame the victim for his own murder. However, Tiffany’s ignorance has not stopped him from engaging in knee-jerk partisan finger pointing, as he blamed Democrats for the incident.
“Tom Tiffany continues to prove there are no depths to his ignorance and no limits to his ill-informed, knee-jerk partisan finger pointing,” said A Better Wisconsin Together Deputy Director Mike Browne.
The latest display of ignorance and incompetence from Tiffany comes as even his fellow Republicans are publicly expressing their concern with the dangerous and deadly trampling of people’s freedoms by the Trump regime. Some are even disavowing the party, as a leading Republican candidate for Governor in Minnesota ended his campaign, saying he no longer wanted to be a member of the GOP.
Tiffany has consistently, without question or demand of accountability, supported the domestic deployment of federal forces in American cities. The consequences of the policies he supports have been deadly. In just the first 24 days of 2026, 9 people have been killed while in ICE custody or in immigration related actions. In the last 6 months, 16 people have been shot at by immigration officials, and 32 people were reported as having died in ICE custody in 2025.
Browne noted that despite these huge red flags, Tiffany has voted for massive budget increases for the Department of Homeland Security overseeing these operations. In July of 2025, Tiffany voted for an $170 billion increase for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) immigration budget, while also voting to slash support for food assistance for children and against holding down health care costs for middle class and working people. And just last week he voted for nearly $800 million more in funding for ICE and part of the DHS budget.
