MADISON, Wis. — In an early morning interview on right-wing radio July 21, Republican Congressman and candidate for Wisconsin governor Tom Tiffany admitted he opposes asking billionaires to pay what they owe in state taxes.

During his appearance on the Benjamin Yount show, Tiffany said in part:

There’s a couple billionaires in Wisconsin, I believe one of them is worth like $22 billion. With all the spending that they want to do, they’ll wipe that $22 billion out in one budget cycle. So then what do you do? Who do you go to after you’ve taxed the billionaires out of their wealth if that’s what you choose to do?”

“Tom Tiffany is finally saying the quiet part out loud: that he puts billionaires ahead of everyday Wisconsinites,” said A Better Wisconsin Together Communications Director Lucy Ripp.

Ripp added that perhaps what compelled Tiffany to finally be honest about his affinity for giving the ultra-wealthy a leg up is his recently filed campaign finance report, which shows an overwhelming majority of his campaign cash coming from billionaires.

Records show that the Republican Party of Wisconsin transferred campaign cash from their billionaire-filled coffers directly to Tiffany, accounting for roughly 70 percent of the total fundraising haul he reported in the first half of 2026.

“Sadly, this isn’t the first time Tiffany has been tied to helping billionaires, or himself, skip out on paying up,” said Ripp.

In addition to not asking billionaires to pay what they owe in state taxes, Tiffany himself paid no personal state income taxes in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 or 2010 according to Department of Revenue records. More recently, Tiffany voted last summer to take food and healthcare away from kids and seniors so he could fund tax cuts for his billionaire buddies.
