MADISON, Wis. — Starting today, nearly 40,000 people in Wisconsin are at risk of not being able to put food on the table, due directly to recent votes from Republican Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany.
Starting May 1, changes to the federal food assistance program, SNAP, are taking effect. According to reports, these changes will put roughly 36,000 people in Wisconsin at risk of losing their SNAP benefits.
These catastrophic losses in food assistance are a result of MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany casting one of the deciding votes to pass Trump’s disastrous budget bill last summer. Not long after, Trump endorsed Tiffany to be Wisconsin’s next governor.
“Tom Tiffany enthusiastically signed off on taking food away from the children and families he’s paid to represent, all so he could score cheap political points and give tax breaks to his billionaire buddies,” said Ripp.
Worse yet, instead of fixing his previous vote to strip SNAP food assistance from tens of thousands of Wisconsinites to pay for tax cuts for billionaires, Tiffany voted yesterday to lock in the cuts in the farm bill reauthorization.
“Tiffany clearly values bowing down to Trump and his billionaire buddies over the lives of his constituents,” Ripp said. “Wisconsinites deserve better.”
