MADISON, Wis. — The Republican majority in the Wisconsin state senate, which has not met in a floor session for over three months, finally returned today. However, Republicans once again failed to get the job done, rejecting consideration or action on any legislation tackling top issues like rising costs, the closing of service veterans facilities, or cleaning up PFAS pollution.
“Surprisingly, senate Republicans finally showed up to work today. But unsurprisingly, they still aren’t doing their jobs,” said A Better Wisconsin Together Communications Director Lucy Ripp . “While these Republicans sat back and enjoyed a months-long hiatus from the state Senate floor, their constituents have been working hard every day while dealing with the rising costs of food, healthcare, and keeping the lights on.”
According to legislative records, today marks just the 7th time the senate has met in a floor session since the current session was convened in early January.
Notably, the state senate GOP has stayed away from showing up to work since Wisconsin Republicans in Congress passed Trump’s Big Ugly Bill that takes healthcare and food assistance away from thousands of Wisconsinites to pay for more tax breaks for billionaires.
“Though it should have been an obvious part of the job description when they decided to run for office, Wisconsin Republicans clearly need a reminder that they aren’t self employed,” said Ripp.
Ripp concluded, “They work for us, the people of Wisconsin, and we deserve better than a GOP-controlled legislature that only shows up to work when they feel like it, yet pick up a full-time paycheck while we foot the bill.”
