MADISON, Wis. — Today, Ron Johnson joined fellow U.S. Senate Republicans in passing a version of Trump’s budget bill that could take away even more people’s healthcare – in the name of giving tax breaks to billionaires – than a version passed previously by Wisconsin Republicans in the House.

“Ron Johnson and his fellow Republicans have taken a bad, unpopular bill and made it worse by ripping even more healthcare, food, and other essential resources away from seniors, children, and people with disabilities in order to fund new tax cuts for greedy corporations and the wealthy few,” said A Better Wisconsin Together Communications Director Lucy Ripp.

Ripp continued ,“And not only are these Republican lawmakers taking resources away from Wisconsin families to benefit their wealthy backers, but they’re also driving up costs for families who are already struggling to get by.”

In addition to taking healthcare away from tens of thousands of Wisconsinites, Republicans’ latest tax scam would also increase health insurance premiums, medical debt, and energy bills for local families, as well as decimate union jobs that Wisconsin workers rely on to support their families and cut off funding for programs that ensure thousands of children across the Badger State have access to food and education.

“As this latest version of the Republican budget bill now heads back to the House, Wisconsin Republicans have a second chance to do what’s right and ensure nobody in Wisconsin has to lose their healthcare or go without food on the table over a bill that skews all of the benefits to the wealthiest few,” said Ripp.
