OP-ED: The Real Focus this Presidents’ Day Should be the Wisconsinites Fighting Back

The Trump Administration that gets more and more un-presidential as the days go by

Whether it’s Donald Trump cutting off funding that ensures kids have food to eat and families have healthcare, his racist social media posts, ICE’s terror, or the terrible tariffs raising our everyday living costs, there’s not much worth celebrating about the performance of the current occupant of the office Oval Office this Presidents’ Day.

Coupled with Trump’s recent endorsement of Republican Tom Tiffany in Wisconsin’s gubernatorial race, it’s never been more important that Wisconsinites fight back – just as we always have.

When Trump came after hard earned benefits like Social Security, thousands of Wisconsinites showed up in protest across the state, and again months later in the nationwide No Kings protest. Most recently, Wisconsin stood against Trump and in solidarity with Minnesota as he directed masked federal agents to terrorize local neighborhoods.

Wisconsin’s elected officials are fighting back, too. As of December 2025, the state of Wisconsin had 35 active lawsuits against the Trump Administration, thanks to leaders like Attorney General Josh Kaul and Governor Tony Evers.

So this Presidents’ Day and beyond, as we endure a Trump administration that gets more and more un-presidential as the days go by, we won’t forget our collective power. Wisconsin will continue fighting back.
