OP-ED: It’s National Banned Books Week, and Here’s What You Need to Know About Tom Tiffany’s Record on the Issue

Not only was he recently caught scrubbing his website of his radical right-wing and unpopular beliefs, but he’s also trying to scrub away Wisconsin kids’ right to read

Early October marks National Banned Books Week, a dedicated time to fight back against censorship and highlight the importance of our freedom to read and learn without interference from politicians

In Wisconsin, Banned Books Week hits home as Republicans representing us in the state legislature and all the way to Washington D.C. are actively trying to ban books and censor our local public schools and libraries.

That’s especially true for Republican Congressman, and now candidate for governor, Tom Tiffany. Not only was he recently caught scrubbing his website of his radical right-wing and unpopular beliefs, but he’s also trying to scrub away Wisconsin kids’ right to read.

Two months ago Tiffany signed a pledge with Moms for Liberty, a far-right designated extremist group that, according to news reports, recently tried to ban more than 30 books from Wisconsin libraries.

Tiffany also sponsored a bill to get rid of the Department of Education, voted for the biggest cut to public education in Wisconsin history, and has sat idly by as Trump’s federal funding cuts could force public libraries across Wisconsin to close their doors.

This Banned Books Week and beyond, call Tom Tiffany at 202-225-3365 and let him know Wisconsinites won’t stand for him turning the page on our freedom to read.

Inaction by Republicans to enact commonsense state reforms means Wisconsinites will spend another 4/20 among the dwindling number of states where medicinal or recreational use of marijuana is not allowed
