On Its 90th Birthday, A Better Wisconsin Together Calls on Lawmakers to Protect Social Security Amid Attacks from Trump and Wisconsin Republicans

Under the MAGA Republican budget bill, 62 million retirees will be negatively impacted and roughly 20% of people will not receive their promised social security benefits.

MADISON, Wis. — On the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act, and just weeks after Wisconsin’s Republican delegation in Congress voted to pass Trump’s budget bill that poses a serious threat to the program, A Better Wisconsin Together is calling on Wisconsin lawmakers to protect social security in the face of these right-wing attacks.

“Wisconsinites deserve to retire with dignity and reap the benefits of programs they’ve spent decades paying into across years of hard work,” said A Better Wisconsin Together Communications Director Lucy Ripp. “And our elected officials should be protecting our hard earned benefits, not gutting them.”

But according to experts, Trump’s Big Ugly Bill that Wisconsin Republicans voted for last month will not only take healthcare and food away from millions of families, but could endanger the future of social security.

Data also shows that, under the MAGA Republican budget bill, 62 million retirees will be negatively impacted and roughly 20% of people will not receive their promised social security benefits.

“Nearly a century since the Social Security Act was signed into law, we won’t sit back quietly while greedy Republicans try to gut another essential resource for Wisconsin families in the name of giving tax cuts to billionaires,” Ripp said.
