MADISON, Wis. — Right-wing judge Maria Lazar is continuing to court support from right-wing extremists in her bid for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, this time as the featured guest at a Feb. 24 Wolf River Area Patriots event.
Wolf River Area Patriots, along with the Northeast Wisconsin Patriots and the Fox Valley Initiative, make up the Wisconsin Conservative Coalition (WCC), whose mission is to increase right-wing political influence and impose their conservative views onto Wisconsin residents.
Joining the Wolf River Area Patriots event this Tuesday means Lazar will hit the WCC trifecta, having appeared at a Northeast Wisconsin Patriots event on Jan. 8, and stopping by the Fox Valley Initiative on Feb. 2.
A look at their platforms reveals that the right-wing agenda these groups work to spread across Wisconsin includes not only election denialism, but also anti-abortion, anti-birth control, anti-LGBTQ, and anti-vaccine rhetoric.
“Judge Lazar is actively and repeatedly courting the most extreme right-wing interests in Wisconsin,” said Lucy Ripp, communications director at A Better Wisconsin Together. “Her actions show she’d be a proud pawn advancing MAGA and the extreme right-wing’s unpopular agenda on the court, at the expense of our rights and freedoms.”
Ripp noted that Lazar’s long history of and close ties to right-wing extremism also includes:
- Endorsements from Wisconsin’s most radical anti-abortion groups, including Pro-Life Wisconsin, whose mission is to ban abortion with no exceptions and criminalize doctors and nurses for providing abortion care;
- Ruling in favor of allowing far-right election conspiracists access to personal voting data;
- Embracing election deniers like Michael Flynn, Jim Troupis, and Michael Gableman;
- And praising members of Moms for Liberty, a group notorious for their book banning agenda and designation by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an antigovernment group.
