ICYMI: Tariffs Supported by Wisconsin Republicans are Harming Wisconsin Economy, Farmers

These newest tariff revelations come on the heels of prior reporting that Trump’s tariffs are increasing prices in Wisconsin on everything from gas, groceries, clothes, and school supplies, to beer and even Friday night fish fries.

MADISON, Wis. — This week, experts once again confirmed what many of us in Wisconsin have been experiencing firsthand for months: that Trump’s tariffs are hurting Wisconsin families, including a central pillar of our state economy – Wisconsin farmers.

Expert panelists discussed on Tuesday the harmful impacts that Trump’s tariffs are having on industries across Wisconsin, including our local Wisconsin farms, saying rising costs are making farm equipment more expensive and the price of fertilizer for some has gone up by nearly 30%.

These newest tariff revelations come on the heels of prior reporting that Trump’s tariffs are increasing prices in Wisconsin on everything from gas, groceries, clothes, and school supplies, to beer and even Friday night fish fries.

But despite this, Wisconsin Republicans continue to double down in their support for Trump’s tariffs, with GOP Congressman Tom Tiffany on tape praising the tariffs as “really good things,” and his fellow Wisconsin Republican Bryan Steil recently booed at a town hall for his support of Trump’s tariffs.

Bill Berrien, a Republican candidate for governor in Wisconsin, is also on record supporting Trump’s tariffs. Berrien is joined in the race for governor by fellow Wisconsin Republican Josh Schoemann, who has also shown he’ll put partisan politics over what’s best for Wisconsinites, indicating in a recent interview that he’s desperate for an endorsement from Trump.

“No elected official should look at the devastating impacts Trump’s tariffs are having on their local constituents and decide that that’s ‘a really good thing,’” said Lucy Ripp, Communications Director at A Better Wisconsin Together. “Those we elect to represent us in office should be working every day to make life better, not worse, for Wisconsinites.”

Call your state (1-800-362-9472) and federal (202-224-3121) lawmakers today and demand they stand up for Wisconsin families and farmers by standing against Trump’s tariffs.
