MADISON, Wis. — With his job approval cratering and widespread opposition to his policy agenda, Donald Trump in his interminably long State of the Union speech called for new restrictions to make it more difficult to vote, including all but ending voting by mail.

“The question for the Republican Congressional delegation now is, whose side are they on?” asked A Better Wisconsin Together spokesperson Mike Browne. “Tom Tiffany, Derrick Van Orden, and the rest can either decide to stand up for our freedom to choose our own leaders, or bow down to Donald Trump and his demands to keep Wisconsinites from voting.”

Voters in Wisconsin are allowed to cast an absentee ballot early by mail or in-person. The ease and convenience of this opportunity to vote absentee is widely used by Wisconsinites including, according to state records, by every member of the Republican Congressional delegation in April 2025, the last statewide election.

Notable MAGA ally Tom Tiffany – who Trump publicly supports as having “always been by my side” – voted early by mail or in-person 62% of the time in elections over the last five years. Extreme right-wing U.S. Representative Derrick Van Orden is recorded as having voted absentee in the last 4 elections in which he cast a ballot.

Even Republican Senator Ron Johnson, who seemingly has never met a conspiracy theory he wouldn’t buy, is a frequent absentee voter, doing so not only in the Spring 2025 statewide election but also in every election in 2024.
