In the lead up to National Women’s Health Week, access to the pill prescribed for abortion and miscarriage care (mifepristone), has been dominating headlines as it plays out in federal court.
While in-person access to Mifepristone remains legal here in Wisconsin, it’s a serious reminder that Republicans like Congressman Tom Tiffany have been attacking women’s health, including access to the abortion pill, for years.
Here’s a look at what Rep. Tiffany, who’s also the MAGA extremist candidate to be Wisconsin’s next governor, has done to attack our reproductive rights.
For the entirety of his long political career, Tiffany has repeatedly tried to ban abortion. Most recently, as a member of Congress, he sponsored legislation to impose a dangerous federal abortion ban and when he was in the state legislature he voted to ban abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.
He also voted in favor of forcing women seeking abortion care to undergo an invasive and unnecessary ultrasound prior to being allowed to have an abortion, voted to ban Wisconsin women from receiving abortion care via telehealth appointments, and in both 2016 and 2025 Tiffany voted to defund Planned Parenthood.
Tiffany’s record not only proves he doesn’t believe women should be able to make their own decisions about abortion, but he also showed he opposes our right to access birth control when he voted against the Right to Contraception Act.
In fact, Tiffany’s anti-abortion extremism has earned him multiple (2016, 2020, and 2022) endorsements from Wisconsin Right to Life, an extreme anti-abortion group that takes credit for bringing about some of the nation’s most restrictive abortion laws.
Republicans like Tiffany have been at this for years, with no plans of slowing down, despite the fact that an overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites disagree with them.
This year, we can honor Women’s Health Week by pushing our elected officials to protect and expand our right to access comprehensive reproductive healthcare.
