On Labor Day, A Better Wisconsin Together Calls for Lawmakers to Support Workers’ Rights

MADISON, Wis. — In commemoration of Labor Day, A Better Wisconsin Together is calling on Wisconsin lawmakers to protect and expand workers’ rights across the state.

“When Wisconsin workers are supported, we all benefit,” said Mike Browne, deputy director of A Better Wisconsin Together. “Whatever the job, workers should have the freedom to have their voices heard in their workplace, to earn good wages, and to have family-supporting benefits.”

Right now, workers across the state are unduly suffering due to years of right-wing politicians playing partisan politics instead of siding with Wisconsin workers.

To help protect workplace freedoms, leaders like Vice President Kamala Harris and Wisconsin’s U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin are supporting the PRO Act, a bill that would empower workers to have a voice in their workplace and bargain with their employers for things like fair wages, good benefits, and safe working conditions.

At the state level, Democratic legislators recently introduced the Workers First bill package, a set of bills that would make it easier for Wisconsin workers to organize together and prevent wage discrimination against women and other protected classes.

“To make comprehensive workers rights a reality in Wisconsin, we need our elected representatives to work for us,” Browne said. “This Labor Day, we applaud those who have stepped up to introduce and support pro-worker legislation, and hope that their Republican colleagues will finally join them in taking action on protecting workers’ rights.”
