OP-ED: Misplaced Priorities Abound at State GOP Convention

This month, Republican officials from across Wisconsin gathered for a state party convention where they adopted a dangerous agenda on important issues like democracy, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, public education, and more.

This month, Republican officials from across Wisconsin gathered for a state party convention where they adopted a dangerous agenda on important issues like democracy, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, public education, and more.

The agenda espoused by Wisconsin Republicans last weekend goes directly against the future that Wisconsinites overwhelmingly agree on for our state.

Time and time again Wisconsinites have said we want safe and legal abortion access in the Badger State, yet state Republicans used their convention to adopt a platform that would ban abortion access, with mega-millionaire Eric Hovde officially confirming his support for a statewide abortion ban.

Other top Republicans like Sen. Ron Johnson doubled down on attacking Wisconsinites’ freedom to vote, indicating he would only accept the 2024 election results if it goes in the MAGA faction’s favor. This in addition to Republicans voting to send fake elector Pam Travis as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee later this summer.

Republicans also used their 2024 state convention to espouse their dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ agenda, adopting a resolution against same-sex marriage despite an overwhelming two-thirds of likely voters in battleground states like Wisconsin showing support for marriage equality.

Overall, it’s clear that while the rest of us are working every day to build a better future for ourselves and our families, Wisconsin Republicans are spending their time on all the wrong priorities, like banning abortion care and silencing voters.

Call state (1-800-362-9472) and federal (202-224-3121) Wisconsin Republicans today and demand they start prioritizing the needs of Wisconsinites over their selfish partisan agendas.
