I sometimes get caught in this place where I’m thinking about what this year was supposed to be like. It’s pretty depressing.
It’s frustrating because it feels like a lot of the burden of COVID has fallen on the backs of small business operators. Way back in March, at the federal level, we needed an executive plan from the top that everybody followed, and we’d probably be doing a lot better than we are.
The help that’s out there, a lot of it seemed to go to these big corporations, and Walmart’s fine, Target’s fine. Eighty percent of our business is wiped out under the current rules that we have. It’s frustrating. The state level, it’s a partisan issue. There’s no reason for it to be. The fact is we are going to need some help, and I hope that the folks that can help us will stop playing games.
In December and January, you’re going to see so many businesses failing—your favorite restaurants, your favorite bars, your favorite local shops—they’re going to be gone.
