OP-ED: Wisconsinites Deserve Clean Water. It’s Time for All Leaders to Join the Fight.

For too long, GOP politicians have been treating clean water as a luxury, not a basic need, and have repeatedly refused to work together across the aisle to deliver clean water for the Badger State.

No matter your zip code, everyone needs and deserves clean drinking water. But, from lead pipes to PFAS contamination, access to clean water is not a given for many communities across Wisconsin.

That’s why Governor Evers and the Biden-Harris Administration recently worked together to secure over $400,000 for lead testing in Wisconsin schools and child care centers, and why Governor Evers is calling for updates Wisconsin’s drinking water standards so we are better equipped to combat PFAS contamination.

This critical funding made possible by Gov. Evers and the Biden-Harris Administration comes as right-wing lawmakers continue to refuse action on clean water in Wisconsin.

For too long, GOP politicians have been treating clean water as a luxury, not a basic need, and have repeatedly refused to work together across the aisle to deliver clean water for the Badger State. This year alone, the Republican-controlled state finance committee twice ignored calls from Gov. Evers to come together and release $125 million in already approved funds to mitigate PFAS contamination across the state.

In order to make clean water a reality for every household in Wisconsin, we need Republican lawmakers to end the partisan antics and work together on bipartisan solutions.

You can reach your state representatives at 1-800-362-9472, or your federal representatives at 202-224-3121, to demand they follow the lead of Gov. Evers and President Biden and deliver on clean water initiatives for Wisconsinites.
