MADISON, Wis. — Judge Maria Lazar continues to align herself with Wisconsin’s most extreme right-wing networks in her bid for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, headlining an event tonight alongside a local Moms for Liberty operative, Rebecca Witherspoon.
Moms for Liberty is a far-right group whose agenda includes banning books, censoring curriculums, and attacking LGBTQ+ youth. In fact, a local Moms for Liberty member recently made headlines for trying to ban more than 30 books from the school library in Somerset, Wisconsin.
Monday night’s event featuring Lazar and Witherspoon is hosted by Club 47, which describes itself as an organization that promotes MAGA candidates.
“Lazar’s allegiance to the far-right agenda gets more and more brazen by the day,” said Lucy Ripp, communications director at A Better Wisconsin Together. “From radical groups that want to ban abortion and make our medical decisions for us, to far-right extremists who want to decide what our kids are allowed to read, this is the company that Maria Lazar proudly keeps.”
Lazar has also praised Wisconsin members of Moms for Liberty in a public Facebook post, and Monday’s appearance comes just one week after she finished appearing with all three groups in the Wisconsin Conservative Coalition (WCC). WCC’s mission is to increase right-wing political influence and impose their extremist views onto Wisconsin residents.
