MADISON, Wis. – According to documents made public in recent news reports, former conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser – acting on a clandestine panel created by Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos to advance an unfounded impeachment scheme against Justice Janet Protasiewicz – has declared that there is no merit or basis to impeach the newly elected justice.

This latest development comes after a deluge of legal experts, other former state Supreme Court justices, and even Republicans have spoken out in opposition to Vos’s impeachment scheme – and after allegations of impropriety made by extremist Republicans against Justice Protasiewicz have been dismissed by the Wisconsin Judicial Commission, which investigates complaints of violations of judicial conduct.

Additionally, a statewide poll sponsored by A Better Wisconsin Together found that Wisconsin voters overwhelmingly oppose an impeachment of Justice Protasiewicz.

“Legal experts, Wisconsin voters, and now even Vos’s own hand-picked advisor have voiced that the impeachment scheme against Justice Protasiewicz is baseless and unjustified,” said Chris Walloch, executive director of A Better Wisconsin Together. “It’s time that Vos faces the music and does the only thing that ends this unpopular, meritless crusade against a duly elected justice: publicly and unequivocally drop his impeachment scheme.”
