MADISON, Wis. — As Wisconsinites find themselves in the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, A Better Wisconsin Together applauds Governor Tony Evers’ leadership, which will protect public health and get us on the path to a healthier economy.

Eight of the country’s top twenty municipal areas with the fastest growing COVID outbreaks are in Wisconsin. Hospitals are approaching capacity across the state. Public health experts and healthcare workers have been calling for action. More than 250 Green Bay area doctors begged legislators to promote social distancing and mask wearing saying, “We are overwhelmed.”

The Republican leadership has refused to answer the call, instead choosing to stay home for 174 days straight, with no plans to show up before the end of the year. The Evers Administration’s Executive Order, which limits indoor public gatherings, helps address scenarios that have the highest potential to be super-spreader events, which experts say causes most of the spread of the coronavirus.

A Better Wisconsin Together Executive Director Nicole Safar commented, “Public health isn’t up for negotiation. We know what works to fight this virus so we can get kids and teachers back in schools, relieve the pressure on our health systems and protect Wisconsin families — especially our most vulnerable members in communities of color, those with underlying health issues and our seniors. The Governor’s action to control the spread addresses the urgency of this moment. Join us in thanking Governor Evers for listening to the experts and taking action to protect public health.”
