Support

School is the main source of community for the majority of students. They might be involved in school sports, clubs, specific classes that they love, maybe they’re finding their mentors their best friends their supportive people.

The world can be an unsafe place for a lot of people and we don’t want school to be an unsafe place.

Youth itself is kind of its own culture but we’re also going to look at every other as aspect of culture, whether that be needs related to their disability, to their religion, to their culture, to their ethnicity.

Why wouldn’t we provide for other accommodations that are so simple and you know keep a student in school and keep them positive and keep them successful. So whether that’s using their name that they chose, that they like, that they’re comfortable with, that makes them feel good.

Why wouldn’t we use that name – just like if someone had chosen to be called Bobby instead of Robert.

This is not any different than anything else that has been viewed as controversial or different in the past.

All of our students are required to be in a school environment. We have to do our best to support them, make them feel welcomed, and safe and loved in that environment.

How can they learn otherwise and how can we how can we teach any other  way.
