For those of us who believe in the democratic process, for those of us who want more people to turn out, who want as much activism in this country as possible, even if we disagree on some things, for everyone who is a working-class American, for everyone who cares about lifting up marginalized communities, this is a victory for all of us.
Democracy means that we, as Americans, have a voice in the direction of our country. That’s what we did this year. We know that there is nothing more American than participating in the democratic process.
No matter who you are, no matter what you believe in, exercising our voice as Americans is so meaningful.
The fact that we did that and we changed the direction of this country to make sure that we have progressive solutions that help all people—people who have been ignored, who have been disenfranchised, who have been kicked down and insulted for the last four years—that’s what democracy means. That’s what we did this year.
Yes, we’ve elected better people, but ultimately we have to push them to never relent, to never let up. And they won’t relent and they won’t let up only if we don’t relent and we don’t let up.
But because we love each other, because we are American, we’re going to continue to fight to help all Americans.
