MADISON, Wis. – A new state legislative session begins in Wisconsin today as legislators, elected in November, take the oath of office for the 2025-26 session.

According to A Better Wisconsin Together Deputy Director Mike Browne, today’s legislative inauguration marks both a new beginning and a monumental shift toward accountability and transparency at our state Capitol that Wisconsin hasn’t seen in decades thanks to years of GOP gerrymandering.

“For the first time in years, Wisconsin voters were able to elect leaders who truly reflect their communities’ values, and severely narrowed the partisan GOP majority that for decades has caused obstruction on the issues that matter most to Wisconsin families,” said Browne.

The people of Wisconsin have clearly spoken in support of things like fully funded public schools, lower costs for working families, and making child care more accessible, while overwhelmingly rejecting the GOP majority’s track record of obstruction, trying to divide our communities, and putting special interests over the wellbeing of working people and the middle class.

“Today marks an opportunity for a new beginning,” said Browne. “It’s time for legislative Republicans to work with Governor Evers and their Democratic colleagues to fulfill the oath of office they take today and truly serve the people of Wisconsin.”
