Disinformation Assistant

A Better Wisconsin Together (ABWT) is seeking a full-time Disinformation Assistant to help counter disinformation across Wisconsin. The Disinformation Assistant will assist the State Disinformation Coordinator with monitoring disinformation being spread, writing plans and memos, developing and presenting briefing materials, and communicating with partner organizations. The Disinformation Assistant will work with a network of partners ready to take on disinformation and will help them formulate effective responses to disinformation as it arises.

This position reports to the State Disinformation Coordinator and works in collaboration with ABWT’s research, digital, and communications team members as well as with organizational stakeholders, and partners.

This position is currently funded through Dec 31, 2023. Pending additional funding, this role will continue into 2024.

About A Better Wisconsin Together 

ABWT, a progressive state communications and research hub in Wisconsin, is seeking a Disinformation Assistant to join our team. We’re an advocacy organization focused on public policy and serving as a center for progressive message development, testing, and communications. This is an exciting position where you will be working with a team to advance progressive policies. Along with rapid response and earned media, ABWT engages Wisconsinites on issues using paid digital, television, and radio communications.

While this position is largely remote, it will be based in Madison, Wisconsin with occasional officework required. Our in-office policy is currently hybrid with staff working both at the office occasionally as well as virtually. Additionally, this position may require some evening and weekend hours as needed. We are a small, nimble team working in a fast-paced environment on the frontlines of the fight to advance progressive values and policies in Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

  • Compiling well-written reports and briefing materials for partner organizations and volunteers.
  • Collaborating with team members to combat disinformation across ABWT’s efforts.
  • Keeping up-to-date with current events and politics.
  • Monitoring the social media accounts of conservative media outlets, influencers, elected officials, operatives, and activists.
  • Administering social listening tools to track and flag disinformation about key topics.
  • Listening to and transcribing key conservative radio programs and interviews daily.
  • Conducting research on various actors, topics, and organizations as needed.

Salary is $50,000. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance.
